For Safety Sake!

Safety Around the Horses

1. Always move quietly and slowly around the horses. Do not handle the horses, unless given specific instructions to do so by a staff member or instructor, who must be present.

2. Avoid walking behind a horse or moving under its neck.

3. If you wish to feed treats to the horses, please ask the
instructor or staff member before doing so. Feeding is
always done from a bucket as hand feeding may encourage
nipping.

4. Do not tie a horse up with their bridles on. Never leave a horse unattended, except in its stall or paddock.

5. Do not latch the stall door if you are inside with a horse, to ensure you can exit quickly if necessary.

6. Horses halters or cavessons are removed when they are in a stall, field or paddock (unless you have been instructed otherwise).

7. When leading a horse through a door, always open widely
and make sure it isnt swinging so that it does not hit the
horse and cause it to startle.

8. Always call "horse" or "door" if you are entering the arena.

9. For safety reasons, always bring a buddy to hold the gate when going to a field to catch or return a horse.

SAFETY RULES ON THE PROPERTY:

1. Please leave your dog at home! Bringing a dog out is
unfair to the DCECs dogs and could be a safety hazard
around the horse and riders.

2. Siblings are to be supervised at all times! For the safety of our riders, horses and your children, siblings will be required to stay with their parents or guardian.

3. For the safety of our riders, please do not run when a
lesson is in progress.

4. Please stay off all farm machinery.

5. The paddocks are out of bounds and please stay off
fences and gates. Most of our fences around the grazing
paddocks are electrified.

6. Please do not feed the horses. Little fingers may appear tempting to them.

7. NO SMOKING ON THE PROPERTY AT ANY TIME.
Failure to adhere to this policy could result in a request to leave the program. Smoking put the horses and program
participants in danger and it is a health concern

preferably no jeans.
